James TOMKINS
In the stats team of the year;
James Tomkins, West Ham – 7.46

Part of an impressive West Ham rearguard, Tomkins has been a rock at the back, averaging 9.8 clearances per game, while winning the most aerial duels (4.8 per game) of all centre-backs. He has been a reliable defender for Sam Allardyce, avoiding a single error that has led to an opposition goal all season, while also contributing with a goal and three assists of his own at the other end.

Just want to add that I don't think he should be called up and I agree with Ron.

That was 3 yrs ago OTB worth another chance in a friendly surely!

That lot last night, some of the passing across the back wouldn't have looked out of place over Parsloes on a Sunday morning

It's amusing when there's postive stats like this, everyone's mind is made up he should be called up.

When you use the exact same company and throw in Cresswell, which are not so positive in comparison, everybody says stats are shit and to be ignored.

I think he's probably capable of playing for England off the back of this season, but he's still prone to a few major errors. In general though his game has really come on last 12 months.

Re: James TOMKINS
Sad to say it but for him to get the recognition he deserves at international level he will have to move to one of the clubs that Woy is prepared to pick from.

You only have to look at Phil McNulty's article on the BBC earlier today when he was talking about left back options for England:

"At left-back, Leighton Baines was found wanting in Brazil, while injuries have held Shaw back. Arsenal's Kieran Gibbs, Danny Rose of Tottenham and Southampton's Ryan Bertrand are in contention but have yet to make any firm case for selection.

An outside bet, might be Baines' understudy at Everton, Luke Garbutt. "

Any mention on Cresswell? Not a fucking chance.....some stand in I've never heard of who can't get a place ahead of the guy McNulty admits was not good enough gets mentioned as an outside bet, but Cresswell is at West Ham so doesn't get a look in.

I guarantee that were Tomkins to move to Arsenal, Tottenham, Man U, even Everton he would get a call up.

And that is part of the reason that the clubs not considered "big" can never break into that group - good players understandably want international caps and they know they won't get them unless they move on.

Makes me sick!

Re: James TOMKINS
When you see ordinary players like Jagielka; Smallingand Jones picked for England and Tomkins not even getting a call up for a friendly, try him with Cahill or even Jagielka if you must but give him a try!

International football would suit him

Re: James TOMKINS
It was his birthday on Sunday (shares it with me, lucky man...) and he's maturing as a player I reckon.

This season has been his best since the promotion season 2011/12 when he should have been HoTY in my book.
